What about Bamboo?
As with the term wicker, rattan and bamboo are often confused. Although both rattan and bamboo grow in tropical areas, they are vastly different natural materials. The main difference between rattan and bamboo is that rattan is solid while bamboo is hollow. The hollow structure of the bamboo makes it hard and inflexible while the solid nature of rattan enables it to be bent or woven into intricate designs. Although both materials are used in furniture manufacturing, the rigidness of bamboo results in more simplistic design application. The flexibility of Rattan allows the material to be woven into intricate designs and patterns and also makes a sturdier construction.
